Reflection Tools · Phase One

Take a breath.

A paced breathing tool to anchor your nervous system before you respond to a child, a client, or yourself. Use it on its own, or as a steadying lead-in to any of the reflection tools we are building.

Breathe in Hold Breathe out

Before you respond

Take a few breaths with the ripple.

The slower you set the pace, the more your nervous system settles. Lead in with three or four breaths to find your own rhythm before you act, speak, or reach for a response.

Breathe in as the ripples expand. Breathe out as they soften.

8 seconds per breath Relaxed

Around 10 seconds per breath is the optimal pace for vagal tone, sometimes called resonance breathing.

More in development.

The breathing pacer is the first of a growing library of reflection tools for parents, educators, and adults navigating dysregulation. Next in development is a behaviour response tool that offers a calm, neuro-affirming starting point when you are unsure how to read what a child or client is showing you.

Check back regularly to be the first to test our new tools as they are released.

This breathing pacer is a reflective resource, not medical advice. If you are in distress, please contact your GP, a counsellor, or a crisis line in your area. Active Attunement is not a crisis service.
